The children were beginning to identify three lettered words which we called "Magic Words". A coach had given me the idea of creating The Magic Word Fairy, and each time a new word was added to our word pocket, the children believed that the Magic Word Fairy had placed it in there overnight. They were excited each time a new word was introduced because it meant that the Magic Word fairy had visited our classroom. They wrote her letters, drew pictures for her and some would come in and tell stories of seeing her leaving the school building. On Valentine's Day, they were especially excited as they entered the classroom and noticed that the magic Word Fairy had left each of them a special surprise with a note.
The children often copied the Magic Words they learned and would write them on the white board for her to see when she visits.
